Electrical Panel Upgrades in San Diego

Running out of breaker space or still on an old 100-amp panel? Sky Source Electric upgrades San Diego homes to modern 200-amp service so your electrical system can handle solar, EV charging, and everything you plug in next.

Overview

More Power for a Modern Home

Many San Diego homes were wired decades ago for a fraction of the electrical load families use today. Between EV chargers, heat pumps, induction cooktops, and solar with battery backup, a 100-amp panel — or an aging fuse box — simply runs out of room and capacity. An electrical panel upgrade gives your home the headroom to add all of it safely, and it clears out old, failure-prone equipment in the process.

Sky Source Electric has upgraded panels across the county for more than 20 years. As a licensed C-10 contractor, we handle the whole job in-house: sizing the new service, coordinating with SDG&E for the meter and mast, pulling the permit, and getting it inspected. If you’re planning solar or an EV charger, an upgraded panel is often the piece that makes the rest possible — and we’ll tell you honestly whether you need one.

FAQ

Electrical Panel Upgrade Questions

How long does a panel upgrade take?

Most residential upgrades are completed in a single day. Power is off for part of that day while we swap the service, and we work to keep that window as short as possible.

Do I need 200-amp service?

It depends on your loads. Most modern homes — especially those adding solar or EV charging — benefit from 200 amps. We’ll do a real load calculation and recommend only what you need.

Do you handle the permit and SDG&E coordination?

Yes. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and coordinate the meter and service disconnect with the utility, so the whole process is handled for you.

Will an upgrade help my planned solar system?

Often it’s required. A modern panel gives your solar installation a safe, code-compliant place to interconnect. We’ll confirm what your project needs.
